English 6 UNIT 1: MY NEW SCHOOL Lesson 6: SKILLS 2 Time: 45 minutes I. Objectives: 1. Knowledge: By the end of this lesson, students can - use the lexical items related to the topic My new school. - listen for specific information about school activities. - write a paragraph about their new school. 2. Competence: Students can improve listening and writing skills 3. Attitude: Students can work hard; love their school, teachers and friends. II. Teaching aids (& materials): Student book TA 6, CD1, power point, posters, laptop, TV, cassette player, loud speaker III. Procedure: Activity 1: Warming up (4 minutes) Goal - To create an active atmosphere in the class before the lesson; - To lead into the new unit. Input “Jumbled Words” Outcome uniform, calculator, pencil case, compass, school bag Procedure - T shows jumbled words about the topic “School” - Ss in groups (A-B) write the correct words on the board. - T gives feedback - T leads to the new lesson Activity 2: Teaching new words (5 minutes) Goal The activity aims at teaching Ss meaning and how to pronounce some vocabulary mentioned in listening and writing. Input nice, helpful, break time, school time, scenery Outcome * Vocabulary - nice ( adj) tử tế, tốt bụng - helpful (adj) hay giúp đỡ - break time (n) giờ giải lao - school time (n) giờ học - scenery (v) phong cảnh Procedure - T elicits new words. - Ss listen, give English words and their meaning and copy. - Teacher guides Ss to read vocabulary (pronunciation, stress) - Check vocabulary (Matching) LISTENING Activity 3 : Pre-listening ( 4 minutes) Goal The activity aims at helping Ss focus on the content of listening Input Outcome Ss’ answers Procedure - T sets the scene - T shows two questions about Janet’s school. - Ss give their prediction. While-listening Activity 4 : Listen to the talk and check your guesses-P 13 ( 4 minutes) Goal The activity aims at helping Ss listen to Janet’s school and check their prediction Input Listen to the talk and check your guesses Outcome Key : 1.Yes, they do 2. Yes, they do Procedure - T plays the recording twice - Ss listen and check their prediction. - T gives feedback. Activity 5 : Listen again and choose the correct answer A or B – Exercise 2, P 12 ( 6 minutes) Goal To help Ss understand clearly the activities in Janet’s school. Input Outcome Key: 1.A 2. B 3. Procedure - T gives 4 questions and calls some Ss to answer - T asks some Ss to answer in front of the class - T gives feedback WRITING Activity 7 : Pre-writing ( 4 minutes) Goal The activity aims at helping Ss focus on the content of writing Input Outcome Ss’ answer 1. (Students study at school time and play games at break time at my school) 5. Activity 8 : While-writing (7 minutes) Goal The activity aims at helping Ss write a short paragraph of 40-50 words about their school. Input Outcome Ss’ paragraphs Procedure -T gives instructions -T give Assessment criteria of writing (a description of a school) -Ss use the answers from Exercise 3-P.13 to complete the paragraph (groups) -T monitors the class Activity 9 : Post-writing ( 7 minutes) Goal The activity aims at correcting Ss’ writing Input Ss’ paragraphs Outcome Suggested paragraph My school is An Ngai Trung Junior High School. It is An Ngai Trung village, Ba Tri District, Ben Tre Province. It has 18 classes with over 600 students. At my school, the students study at school time and play games at break time. I like my friends and teachers because they are friendly and helpful. My school is wonderful. Procedure -T corrects Ss’ paragraphs. (spelling, punctuation, vocabulary, grammar) -Ss copy the completed paragraph * Wrap-up: (2 minutes) - Ask Ss to say aloud some words they remember from the lesson.
