I. Objectives:

Activity 1. (5’) 
Aim: Ask questions to get ready for the topic
-T asks Ss about their families’ food and drink.
- T asks Ss to tell about some ethnic groups’ traditions they know.
Activity 2. (10’)
Aim: Ss practice listening about the Vietnamese traditional food.
- Ss look at the picture and share what they know about this tradition with a partner.
- Elicit ss’ answers and have them share as much information as possible.
- Write the name of the traditional dance on the board: The xoe dance.
- Play the recording once then ask ss to listen carefully and complete the table
- Ask them to give the answer
- Play the recording again then check. Make changes to the answers on the board but do not confirm the correct asnwers now
- Ask ss to listen again then decide if the sentences are T or F
- Ss listen then write down the answers they hear
- Play the recording again for them to check
- T: Correct as a class
* For gifted students: Listen comprehension the related texts. They have to give all correct answer and the reasons why questions are false.
Activity 3. 25’
Aim: Writing a short paragraph about Japanese traditional dance.
Ask ss to work in pairs and make sentences using the given information
Encorage ss to write the full sentences
T: Move round then give comments
- Ask Ss to write their description individually based on the sentences they have made beginning with the given sentence.
- Ss write this in groups on big pieces of paper
- Sts Write a paragraph (about 70 words) about Our customs and traditions
* For gifted students: Write a paragraph (about 120 -150 words) about Our customs and traditions correctly.
Activity 4 (5’)
Aim: Ss summary content and are guided to study at home.
- Give out the homework and asks Ss to do it.
Structures: Questions with question words.

Sample: The Obon dance is a traditional Japanese dance. People have the honour of their ancestors. The Obon festival takes place in mid-August in many regions of Japan and in mid-July in other regions. There are many forms in different regions. The most typical form is circle dance. People make a circle around a yagura, a high wooden stage; some dancers move clockwise, and some counter-clockwise. This is one of the most important traditions. A lot of people come back to reunite with their families during the Obon festival.

UNIT 5: FESTIVALS IN VIETNAM
GETTING STARTED
I. Objectives:
1. Knowledge. By the end of the lesson, ss get some information about festivals in Vietnam: read and listen for specific information about a festival
* Content
- Vocabulary: oriental, reunion, regret, bamboo swings, wristling, dragon boat.
- Skill: reading and listening 
2. Ability.
- Practice the dialogue fluently
- Ss will be able to use the lexical items related to the Vietnamese Festivals and read correct intonation.
3. Attitude.
- Find out about the festivals in Viet Nam and love them.
- Have respect for teachers.
II. Teaching aids: Text books, cassette, chalk, pictures and some boards.

Activity 1. Warm up (5’)
Aim: To attract Ss’ attention to the lesson and to lead in the new lesson.
- Ask ss to come to the board to write as many customs and traditions they know as possible.
Activity 2. (10’) 
Aim: Help Ss interact a conversation about a bit tense lately of Mai and answer the questions.
- Ss have a look at the picture in GETTING STARTED. Introduce the students in the picture: Duong & Peter
- Ss look at the picture in Getting started and the heading Which festival should I see? Ask Ss some questions. Ss answer the questions.
Activity 3 (25’) 
Aim: Ss can practice the lexical items related to the topic.
- T write Ss’ answers on the board. 
- T introduces new words to the ss.
- Ss listen and read the dialogue. 
- Ss check if their guesses’re correct.
- Ss to do Ex individually.
- Ss share the answers with friends.
- One st gives the answers. 
- Others correct & give explanation.
- T asks ss to answer the questions orally without reading the dialogue.
- Ss ask and answer in pairs.
- Ss write the answers on the board.
- Other ss give comment and correct. 
- Ss match the words with the pictures in pairs. Some pairs give answers. Ss read the words chorally.
